The Best Jobs Are Not Advertised

Get This:

You won't find the best jobs in the newspaper or on the web. You see, the best jobs are taken by the people who find them before they're dripped into view from the general public. This means that if you're looking at job ads, you're only seeing the jobs that the expert job hunters don't want. What's more, the very best jobs are actually created for these people.

20 million to 40 million Americans change jobs every year and competition for jobs is greater than ever. Standing out and accessing the best jobs first is essential.

The emerging model for job hunting concerns building relationships and presence inside potential employers. To put it bluntly, if you're not in the face of hiring managers and decision makers who welcome fresh talent, then you're consigned to being offered (and willfully chasing) the dross.

The 'hidden job market' is aptly named because the market isn't publicly available, as it is non-existent. What? I hear you cry. Well, I'll put it like this:

When an employer discovers a unique talent (i.e. You!) that will add tremendous value to the organization, then a job is opened, even if it didn't exist before.

This is the key message. Jobs are created for unique people. Why?

Let me explain. Here's why:

* You offer unique talents/skills/experience that will add additional business value

* You have a solution to a big business problem - one which couldn't be solved as quickly/cheaply without you

* You have a book of clients/contacts that can be leveraged by the organization

* The potential employer would rather have you in their workforce than in a competitor's

* You are well connected in the potential employer's organization

* Your reputation in your industry is substantial and your mere name adds to the authority of the potential employer

But what if you're not unique?

Of course you're unique! Everyone is. Emphasize Your Uniqueness - or stand in the crowd like everyone else.

The key to a successful search of the hidden job market is to create a high-impact self marketing campaign, making valuable connections within organizations, building relationships with sponsors, and then leveraging your connections to seek job opportunities and penetrate into the organization.

I'm making the point that if a potential employer spots you as a talent - a highly valuable and unique talent - they will most likely employ you. But how do they identify you as such? It's about high-impact self marketing.
